Whether you're a bona fide beach baby or an occasional fan, there is no denying the draw of the sea. From Maine to the Keys we flock like lemmings to our favorite stretch of sand.

Requisite beach gear for me is my  "No Worries" hat decorated with Guatemalan worry dolls
(billed as surrogate worriers) ...


and my favorite new iPhone app, Merlin Bird ID.  Answer five easy questions and it provides photos, info and even audio of the bird's call, then logs the sighting into a national data base.


No matter where you park your beach chair, take a nice trashy book, a tall sip of something refreshing, breathe deep and relax.

Lobster Rolls
Decidedly my favorite seaside treat, simplicity is key.

fresh lobster (I have them cook it at the market)
finely chopped celery
fresh tarragon and chive
fresh lemon juice 
mayonnaise
generously buttered & toasted top split hotdog rolls

Every year the Cooches Bridge Chapter of the NSDARplaces flags on the graves of the 37 Revolutionary War Patriots buried in the Churchyard of Head of Christiana Church in Newark, DE.  I'm always amazed that in such a little corner of the world, so many answered the call to serve. This is an activity mirrored all over the country by other DAR chapters and an inspiring reminder of the sacrifices made for the liberties we enjoy.

If you're a purist, by all means follow the recipe to the letter. I cheat and use Pillsbury pie crust, melt chocolate chips in the microwave and glaze with a jar of red currant jam (also nuked).  For me, the fun is in the artistic arrangement of the fruit. Either way, it's always a crowd pleaser.
